11/19/2006 10:58:43 PM

JAMMU, NOV 19
Refuting rumours that he would return to national politics after completing his tenure here as the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad today said he will not return to the Centre.
"I will not go back. I will complete my three-year tenture as Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir and not shift to Delhi after that," Azad told a Congress rally organised in connection with birth anniversary of late prime minister Indira Gandhi here today.
Azad said some people in the state floated the idea that he would go back to the Centre after completing his agenda and this was "untrue".
"My own agenda is to give people justice and development. I do not show people mirages and befool them with hallow slogans," he said.
Referring to possible solutions to the Kashmir issue, he said none of the formulas implemented in 1947, 1953, 1977 and 1983-84 worked at all, because these were based on politics of slogans only, he said.
But during the rule of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, we want to create best political environment with better securtiy situation, he said adding the Centre had been holding peace talks with Kashmiri leaders and simultaneously holding parlays with Paksitan.
"The first and second roundtable conferences have already been held and talks between India and Pakistan have also been speeded up in this direction," Azad said.
"An impression should not be created that the state and Central governments are sitting idle. We are working to end militancy and usher in permanent peace in Jammu and Kashmir," he said.
At the same time, the state government had also speeded up developmental works, the Chief Minister said adding that the next meeting of a working group set up on the matter would be held soon.
Referring to Indira Gandhi, he said she was the world's tallest leader during her lifetime and continues to enjoy this status in the hearts and minds of the people of India.
Speaking on the occasion, Union minister Saifuddin Soz said doors for talks with separatists were open.
H said the Union government had reinvented Indira Gandhi's 20-point programe for development, uplift of the poor, employement generation and building of rural infrastructure in the country.
