Dogri Sanstha organises Kavi Sammelan on environment proection

Jammu,May 7: Dogri Sanstha in collaboration with World Wide Fund for Nature-India (WWF) organized a Kavi Sammelan on protection of environment and nature in K.L. Sehgal Hall in which leading and prominent poets of Dogri participated.


Prof. Shashi Kant, Advisor, WWF was the Chief Guest and Prof. Usha Upadhyay, HOD, Department of Gujrati Language & Literature, Gujrat Vidyapeeth, Ahemdabad, Gujrat was the guest of honour in the function which was presided over by Prof. Lalit Magotra, President of Dogri Sanstha.
The galaxy of poets who recited their poems include Vijaya Thakur, Susheel Begana, Gianeshwar, Champa Sharma, Surinder Manhas, Nirmal Vinod, Rattan Doshi, Sham Taalab, Randhir Raipuria, Surinder Sagar, Pradyuman Singh Jindrahia, Darshan Darshi, Chhatrapal, Dhyan Singh, Sumbrya, Yash Raina, Usha Kiran, Puran Chand Sharma, Lal Chand Gandotra, Puran Chand Bargotra, Khajur Singh and K.K. Shakir.

A large number of prominent citizens formed the audience. Prof. Shashi Kant, speaking on the occasion, stressed the importance and relevance of preservation of environment which sustains human life and on which depends our well being. He appreciated the poets for their concern regarding degradation of environment and appreciated the efforts of Dogri Sanstha for organizing such a programme and assured all assistance from the WWF for all such endeavours of the Sanstha, in future as well.
Prof. Lalit Magotra, in the presidential remarks, emphasized that it is not only the duty ,rather necessity of each individual and organization to work for protection of environment because the very existence of human race depended on it. He said, when the poet, who is conscience keeper of the society, says something, the society listens to it and takes it seriously. He urged all writers, writing in any language to make environment as the subject of their writings.
Prof. Usha Upadhaya also spoke on the occasion and appreciated the sweetness of Dogri language.Earlier Prof. Veena Gupta, General Secretary while welcoming the audience expressed her grave concern over the unabated degradation of environment in general, and phenomenal deforestation in the State in particular. She said by cutting down the forest on large scale humans are actually extinguishing the flame of life.
