Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 8: Calling for a strike on May 14 against the condition of prisoners, Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Sunday warned of ‘peaceful’ agitation across the state if they were not released immediately. Addressing a seminar organized by Hurriyat (G) at Geelani’s Hyderpora residence, Geelani said, “Torture meted out to prisoners in jails is condemnable. There are 1465 Kashmiri detainees in Srinagar, Kathua, Hira Nagar, Udhampur, Imphala, Baramulla, Kupwara, Poonch, Rajouri, Tihar, Calcutta, Bombay, Madras, Bangalore and few other jails of India,” he said. Releasing the statistics about the arrests, Geelani said, “Since May 2010, cases against 4800 people including 300 employees have been registered in various police stations. Challan against 1048 political prisoners have been presented.” Hurriyat chairman alleged that arrested youths are being tortured for first four days and after that they are being lodged with criminals in jails. “PSA orders against Asiya Andrabi, Qazi Yasir, Ghulam Nabi Sumji, Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, Mohammad Yosuf Falahi, Peer Saif-ullah and others have been quashed by the courts. But despite that they aren’t being released,” he added. Apart from Geelani, Advocate Mohammad Shafi Reshi, Javed Ahmad Mir, Dr Javed Iqbal, Abdul Majeed Zarger, Dr Ghulam Ahmad Ganie, Dr Abdul Majeed Siraj, Mohammad Ahsan Untoo, Anwar Ashai and Ayaz Akbar were also present in the seminar.
