| Panchayat poll arrangements for Doda reviewed | | | Early Times Report
DODA, May 8: To ensure smooth Panchayat Elections in District Doda, District Development Commissioner Doda Farooq Khan today convened a meeting of Zonal and Sectoral Magistrates to be deployed in various parts of district during the polls.
Speaking on the occasion, DDC apprised the Magistrates about the guidelines and the powers guaranteed to them under the Pnachayati Act. He said that Zonal and Sectoral Magistrates act as a bridge between public and District Election Officer. He said that they are responsible for the law and order within their area of jurisdiction and the magistrates should sort out problems being faced by staff deployed on election duty.
DDC also revealed that the Zonal and Sectoral Magistrates have to keep close eye on the activities of the contesting candidates and their agents with reference to Election Model Code of Conduct and report to DPEO on finding any violation. He said that there should be no communication gap between the law enforcing agencies and the administration to ensure strict enforcement of the law and order.
In addition to these responsibilities, they have to communicate the number of votes polled with gender ratio in their respective area, communicate about conclusion of polling and the completion of post polling paper work, communicate about the return of the polling parties to the counting centres after completion of poll and after counting they will have to ensure the depositing of election material at Block Headquarter on same day or next day of poll/counting.
