24th tree talk organized in old university campus | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 8: Continuing with tree talk campaign, tree lovers under the stewardship of O.P.Vidyarthi organized 24th tree talk in lush green ambience of old university campus near Canal Road here today. More than 88 participants enjoyed morning walk with tree talk session which started with Vriksh Vandna, Taru Taraane, Sangeet Surtaal and progressed through tree history, tree mythology, tree taxonomy, tree medicine, tree tinctology and their role in human welfare culminated into community pledge to protect and conserve rare native trees. On the occasion, a beautiful group song dedicated to caring mothers was presented by budding tree talk participants Dharya, Bhavya and Sumera. Earlier. Dr. Yash Pal Sharma from the department of Botany, extended heartiest welcome to the tree lovers on behalf of the residents of the Old University campus Speaking on the relevance of such programs in the present times, former PCCF S.D Swantanra lauded the efforts of the tree talk participants in bringing awareness amongst the masses. Sanjeet Khajuria, Chief News Editor Doordarshan Jammu opined that the tree talk campaign has now acquired the shape of a movement and hoped that this would change the mindset of the people regarding the importance green environment. O.P.Sharma shared that Tree Talk is a well known news bulletin brought out by Mississipi Forest Association and it contains forest related information. Tree Talk is also a famous social forestry programme in Uganda, since 2006 it has already planted over 1.8 million plant saplings. Tree Talk initiative has sent seeds to various schools, trees thus raised number 200000, schools have benefited immensely. Prominent participants who made tree talk interesting and thrilling included personalities like Prof. Raj Kumar, Dr Lalitsen Sharma, Prof. Atri, Dr. Chandershekhar, Gopal Krishan Sharma, Sanjit Khajuria , O. P Vidyarthi , Yash Pal Sharma, S Manjit Singh, Dr Yash Pal Sharma, Sh. Rajesh Padha, Dr. Prakash, Dr. Vinay Chouhan, Rakesh Abrol, Dr. Geeta Sharma, Madhavi Khajuria, Students of MIER College, Residents of Boys Hostel, teaching and non teaching staff members of the old campus residential area and many other morning walkers from the nearby households of Canal Road, Jammu.
