21 Cr for orientation course of panches, sarpanches: Sagar

Srinagar, May 9 : An amount of Rs. 21 crore has been earmarked for the imparting an orientation course to the recently elected panches and sarpanches to enable them to get a firsthand knowledge and information about the various rural development schemes for their effective and time-bound implementation.
This information was given out in a high level meeting chaired by the Minister for Rural Development, Panchyati Raj, Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Ali Mohammad Sagar.
The meeting was also attended by Commissioner Secretary, Rural Development, Yadullah, Directors Rural Development, Jammu and Kashmir, MY Zargar and Jehangir Mir, Director Rural Sanitation, Iftikhar Bari, Additional Secretary, Rural Development, Dr. A. G. Sofi, Member Secretary, MGNREGA, Dr. Hanief Balkhi and other senior officers of the department.
Sagar said that it is imperative that the recently elected representatives should be well abreast with the programmes and the policies of the department so that they can very effectively work for the implementation of the same and work as a connecting bridge between the people and the Government. He said that the effective decentralization of the power to the grass root level has to be ensured by virtue of which participatory participation of the masses can be ensured.
While asking the officers to supplement the already existing infrastructure of the Panchayats, Sagar directed them to complete the new Panchayat Ghars within the shortest possible time so that the working of these Panchayats does not get suffered. He said that the funds for the same have already been identified and should be utilized to the maximum.
Sagar also impressed upon the officers to speed up the pace of implementation of various rural development schemes like MGNREGA, IWMP, TSC, NRLM, so that the benefit of these percolates to the targeted populace and people get benefited from the same. He said that due care and transparency should be ensured so that the funds earmarked for the same are utilized in a proper and a systematic manner.
