Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 9: Activists of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) once again lodged a huge protest demonstration against the highly biased and parochial approach of the Election Authorities at various levels and arbitrary, irregular and irrational practices being adopted by them during the course of Panchayat Elections in the state.

Several cases have been repeatedly brought to the notice of Elections authorities but no cognizance has been taken of the same. Protesters once again reiterated the main issues and seek due indulgence and appropriate action of the concerned authorities.

The activists of JKNPP who were present during the protest demonstration include Shanker Singh, Abhinav Anand, Manoj Gupta, Kamal Singh, Sanju Kumari, S. D. Khajuria, Karam Dev Singh, Sunil Sharma, Balwinder Singh, Sanjay Mengi and Ravinder Jamwal.

Speaking on the occasion Pavan Dev Singh (Senior Leader Young Panthers) disclosed that the Election results of Sadrota Panchayat of Block Lohai Mather, Tehsil Billawer, Distt. Kathua was declared on 25th April, immediately after the counting process and Hem Raj was declared elected. It is strange however that on 6th May, recounting was ordered in violation of all norms and laws existing on the subject.

Thereafter one Abdul Hamid was declared elected under the influence of ruling coalition in fragrant abuse of all election laws by the SDM Billawar. The matter was agitated before various authorities but of no avail.

Pushvinder Singh Manhas (State Vice President Young Panthers) addressing the gathering said that the active involvement of officers in the Panchayat Elections which stands established has been repeatedly reported in the media besides making representations to various authorities that Subash Chander Dogra the then Tehsildar Relief Jammu, Kulbhushan Kumar (Tourism) and Tara Nath lecturer
Boys Degree College Udhampur were involved in active politics and campaigned throughout the election period for their Panchayat nominee in Birnu Panchayat of Ghordi namely.

The said officers had even trespassed the counting station and threatened the counting staff besides making unfair use of their position and powers. No action has however been taken against the three Govt. functionaries for involving themselves openly in active politics.
Singh further lambasted the ruling ministers for having openly been making announcements in those areas where the Election process is in process and even on informing the concerned authorities through proper representations no cognizance is being taken by the Election Authorities.

Protestors therefore sought the indulgence of The Chief Electoral Officer to rectify the imbalances in Sadrota Panchayat of Tehsil Billawar in respect of Election of Sarpanch, to take appropriate action against the government officers involved in political campaign in Block Ghordi of Distt. Udhampur, to stop irregular practices and undue favours to proxy candidates sponsored by ruling coalition, review of practice of re-counting , appropriate action against ministers violating code of conduct besides rectification of other anomalies.
