| Prof Vishwa Murti Shastri honoured with President award | | |  Early Times Report
JAMMU, May 9: President Pratibha Devi Singh Patil honored Professor Vishwa Murti Shastri with prestigious President’s award in an
investiture ceremony organized in Rashtrapati Bhawan on Friday.
Higher Education Department of Human Resource Development Ministry has selected Professor Shastri for the award for his pioneering work in promoting Sanskrit learning in the remote and backward areas of Jammu and Kashmir through hundreds of non formal Sanskrit teaching centers where about 5000 students have been imparted with Basic knowledge of Sanskrit.
Minister for Human Resources Development, Kapil Sibal was also present in the function and congratulated Dr. Shastri for the award.
Born in Ghordi in Ramnagar tehsil of Udampur district and he is presently principal of Rahstriya Sanskrit Sansthan Deemed University Ranbir Campus Jammu (Under the Ministry of Human Resource Development Department Of Higher Education New Delhi) in Jammu, which is only Sanskrit learning institute in the state.
