| Gandhi of Billawar remembered | | |
JAMMU | NOV 19 A rich tribute was given to Late Pandit Ram Chander Khajuria, in a function organized here today by the Nami Dogri Sanstha. Member of Parliament and former Chief Minister of the state Dr Farooq Abdullah was the chief guest on the occasion where as the program was resided over by renowned Urdu writer of the subcontinent and Sr. Advocate at the Supreme Court, Sham Sunder Anand Lehar. Minister for health Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma and Minister for Agriculture Abdul Aziz Zargar, were the guests of honor. “ Late Pandit Ram Chander Khajuria popularly known as Gandhi ji of Billlawar was a simple man with innovative ideas who preached spread of education in the rural areas apart from his contribution in fighting social, economic and moral evils”, said Captain Lalit Sharma while reading paper over the life and work of Pandit Khajuria. While addressing the gathering Dr. Abdullah said that a similar program must be held at Billawar College to let the younger generations know about the inspiring life of the Pandit Ji. He further added that people must leave aside the political differences and should recognize the work of social reformers irrespective of their party or cadre. He also suggested for the display of pictures of Pandit Khajuria at Billawar College and publishing of book based on the life and work of Pandit Khajuyria. Mean while, Zargar and Mangat also described him a self esteemed, alteristic and selfless leader.They said that he work at ground level and contributed a lot in eradicating illiteracy and backwardness in the area. On this occasion large number of people hailing from Billawar headed by Romy Khajuria demanded his statue to be erected at his native place and naming of link road from Phinter to Sukrala Mata. Other prominent personalities who were present on the occasion include president, NDS –TAF Dogra Harish Kaila, president Khatri Welfare Association, NC Wing Suneel verma, Balraj Sharma, MM Joshi, RP Sharma, Kashmir Singh, Anupama Sharma and Ramesh Rahi etc. Gandhi of Billawar remembered.
