Early Times Report
HYDERABAD, May 10: Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore was a universal personality, who never believed in territorial boundaries. To understand Tagore & his philosophy it is better to feel him rather read, write or listen about him. Prof. Deepak Kumar, Zakir Hussain Centre for Educational Studies, JNU, New Delhi, expressed these views today at Maulana Azad National Urdu University.
Tagore celebration committee, organized the extension lecture “Tagore – A Person without Boundaries” in connection with the 150th birth anniversary of Gurudev. Prof. Amina Kishore, presided over.
Tagore was a multi faceted personality. Territorial boundaries were meaningless for him. Quoting Gurudev, Prof. Deepak said, Tagore was against all types of fear, for love to flourish fear has to go. Tagore’s relevance is very much there even today. To understand him we have to know the circumstances of that particular era. Last quarter of the 19th Century, when Gurudev was brought up, was marked with a balance between tradition & modernity. This had a deeper impact on Tagore’s Personality.
Further describing his personality, professor said that he used to describe himself as an Arab, Bedouin. Tagore had proved, east can give something to the west. Even though he was a religious person but was never fond of rites & rituals. He described Shanti Nikethan as a nest where students come to take rest.
Prof. Deepak described the ongoing process of Privatization as mere commercialization. Globalisation is not new to Indian ethos. Tagore was an activist too.
He had much concern about the villages. He was in a way pioneer of micro financing. Prof. Amina Kishore in her presidential remarks described the 19th Century as an era of great intellectuals and thinkers. India has gifted eminent personalities to the world, during this era. MANUU is doing an important job with regard to the promotion of Urdu Language and Literature, she said. Earlier Prof. Khalid Saeed, welcomed the gathering.
Dr. Aleem Ashraf, introduced the guest & Dr. Abdul Moiz, proposed vote of thanks. Dr. Shugufta Shaheen conducted the proceedings. Students of MANUU presented the well known Tagore poem “Ekla chalo re……”. in chorus. The programme ended with the national anthem.
