HC grants pre-arrest bail to panchayat election candidate
5/10/2011 10:36:57 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 10: High court judge, Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar today granted pre-arrest bail to Mohammad Sharief who was contesting panchayat election for the post of sarpanch from Sagrawati in Darhal, Rajouri.
Five FIRs under sections 307, 342, 147, 336 and 452 of RPC were registered against Sharief at Darhal police station.
Granting him bail, Justice Attar observed that it appeared that a case stood registered against the petitioner in view of the alleged offences committed by him and some other persons in the ongoing panchayat elections.
It was submitted that because of some political rivalry, he had been harpooned into a fabricated case so as to prevent him from contesting panchayat elections.
The court directed that he should be released in case he furnished bail bond and surety bond of Rs 20,000 in each case to the satisfaction of IO.
The petitioner was directed to remain available at all reasonable times for the case investigation.
