| Court acquits alleged narco smuggler | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
JAMMU, May 10: 2nd additional sessions judge, Jammu, Vinod
Chatterji Koul today acquitted Elias, who was facing trial in NDPS
Act.
He originally hails from Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. According to
the police case, he was arrested by police at Domail, Jhajjar
Kotli, on April 5 last year while trying to smuggle 125 kg poppy
straw in his truck.
A case under section 8/15 of NDPS Act was registered against him
and after the completion of investigation, the challan was
presented in the court.
After hearing both sides, Koul observed that all the prosecution
witnesses had given contradictory statements on material facts. So
the prosecution failed to prove its case and the accused was
acquitted from the charges leveled against him.
With these observations, he directed that he would be released from
the custody if not required in any other case.
