| Leader of millennium Indira envisioned peaceful, prosperous J&K: Azad | | Lauds Jammuites for historic, secular temperament | |
Jammu, Nov 19 Complimenting the rich secular character of people of Jammu, their magnanimity, generosity and historical role for providing shelter, accommodation and support to all those who migrated from valley of Kashmir and other parts of Jammu division including Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur, Doda and Kathua from 1990 onwards in wake of militancy, Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad said that history will always laud their sacrifices. He was addressing jam-packed Congress gathering of Jammu district at Parade Ground here today where 30000 to 40000 people had assembled to pay homage to late Mrs. Indira Gandhi on her birth anniversary today. Chief Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir state has the honour that Mrs. Indira Gandhi, who has been adjudged as the leader of the millennium, was daughter of Kashmir. He said Kashmiriyat since times immemorial symbolizes the high composite culture of co-existence and with the time it is globally being recognized as epitome of secularism and brotherhood. He said that all have to play role for revival of the same so that peace and tranquility again prevails under the umbrella of which massive developmental and reconstruction works are executed throughout the state. Chief Minster said that during last four years of coalition government all endeavours were made to implement the provisions of Congress manifesto and CMP. Mr. Azad said that UPA Chairperson Mrs. Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh arrived in Srinagar personally to launch Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service and on 20th June 2006, Mrs. Sonia Gandhi opened Poonch-Rawalakote road for operation of bus service. Chief Minister while recalling his personal association with Mrs. Indira Gandhi said that five days before her assassination she had called him at her residence and discussed various matters pertaining to development of Jammu and Kashmir state. He also recalled her poetic and emotional description of the beauty of changing colours of Chinar leaves from green to red in autumn in Kashmir, which Mrs. Indira Gandhi had always liked. Chief Minister said that Mrs. Indira Gandhi had envisioned prosperous and peaceful Jammu and Kashmir and it is the duty of all of us to realize her dream into reality. He said the state government with the support of centre has initiated two-pronged strategy to address the socio-political and development scenario simultaneously. He said while endeavours to restore permanent peace addressing all issues through process of dialogue and roundtable conferences, massive infrastructure development and amenities providing mission has been set in place to put back on rails the militancy-eaten economy. Chief Minister said that he will not rest until the agenda for achieving lasting peace and prosperity of the state is realized in full, appealing the people to lend their hand to him in this gigantic task. He said the war against corruption and land-mafia, he has launched requires full public support as it cannot be accomplished in toto by him and his colleagues alone unless all contribute their might to eradicate this menace. Mr. Azad disclosed that Governor has given his assent to the ordinance approved by the cabinet for dealing with matters relating to the encroachment of state land. He said as per the survey conducted about 20 lakh kanals of state land worth Rs 25000 crore is under illegal occupation of the people and ordinance was best possible method to retrieve the land. He said the cost of the encroached state land is equivalent to the 5 years plan of the state. He said that his agenda is people-centric and every step or action taken by him is for the benefit and welfare of the people and the state. He said, he has no personal agenda other than providing justice to every citizen of the state and involving them in the process of peace and prosperity. Chief Minister said that people have always been the fountainhead of power of the Congress and gave fullest support to this party for its high graded policy programmes for the country and its people. He said Congress is in fact a people’s movement and a history in itself. He said the party symbolizes strong secular, democratic and economically strong country and always worked and sacrificed for the solidarity and cause of the nation, adding that martyrdom of Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Mr. Rajiv Gandhi and others itself speaks of self-less characteristic phenomenon of Congress and its leaders. Chief Minister thanking the media for their support to his policy programmes launched for the benefit of people and the state said that whenever he launched strategy for people’s cause, he received tremendous support from the media. Union Minister for Water Resources Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz, JKPCC President and Minister for School Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed, senior Congress leader and Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for R&B Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak, MPs Mr. Madan Lal Sharma and Ch. Lal Shingh, legislators Mr. Raman Bhalla, Mr. Yogesh Sawhney, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma, Mrs. Suman Lata Bhagat and Mr. Praduman Singh besides Mayor JMC Ch. Manmohan Singh were among those who also paid rich tributes to Mrs. Gandhi and counted achievements of coalition government.
