Ultra-turned-SPO kills wife, brother-in-law
5/11/2011 12:44:30 AM
Early Times Report
Jammu, May 10: A surrendered militant-turned-Special Police Officer (SPO) Monday night allegedly shot dead his wife and brother-in-law at their residence at Maitra in Ramban.
SPO Gaffoor Ahmad suspected that his wife Rehmata Begum, who too was SPO, indulged in adultery in his absence, police sources said.
While he was at present posted at Ramsoo police post, the woman was deployed at Ramban district police lines, the sources added.
Unwilling to forgive her alleged infidelities, he had an altercation with her at their Maitra residence Monday at about 10.30 pm.
In a fit of anger, he later allegedly fired at Rehmata from his official AK rifle, pumping three bullets into her body.
Sources said when Rehmata's brother Farooq Ahmad of Bharath, Doda, who had come to meet them, intervened and tried to save her sister, he too was fired upon.
Farooq was killed on the spot, while Rehmata was admitted to Ramban district hospital and later referred to the GMC hospital, Jammu, where she succumbed to her wounds this afternoon.
The Ramban police had arrested Gaffoor and seized the weapon of offence. A murder case was registered against him.
Gaffoor, who had joined Harkat-ul-Ansar in 1995, originally hails from Thathri, Doda. He had abducted Rehmata from her residence at Bharath on gun point and married her.
He surrendered before security forces in 1999 and joined the national mainstream. He and Rehmata were later absorbed in police as SPOs.
The couple later settled at Maitra.
