BJP's disciplinary panel 'puts off' final decision against MLAs | Committee in dilemma over 'replies' or buying time.......? | | Saroj Razdan Jammu, May 10: In what can be seen as the issue of cross voting assuming new dimesions for the BJP leadership, the Discplinary Action Committee set up to decide the fate of 7 suspended MLAs in its crucial meeting today decided not to hurry into any conclusion in the matter without looking into fresh aspects which have emerged out of 'counter allegations' made by the MLAs in their replies to sho cause notices. The meeting held under the chairmanship of OP Kohli remained inconclusive. The panel is scheduled to meet on May 20 and likely to present its report to the High command in next meeting. Sources said the committee which has very senior and experienced leaders of the party as members discussed the replies forwarded by the MLAs threadbare and even presented their views on the points made in the written replies. Though most of the members expressed unanimous view on recommending stern action against the MLAs, also in the backdrop of the fact some recent developments which have been seen as anti party activities, some dissenting views emerged on studying and assessing well the allegations and accusations made in the written replies, sources said adding that they want to study the whole matter so that justice is done with innocent, who so ever. "The members of the empowered commitee discussed the replies forwraded by the MLAs in today's meeting.....they also presneted their views and opinions in the matter but no final decision was taken today", said RP Singh co in charge J&K affairs. Sources however said even though majority of the members, some of whom are also legal luminaries, are of the view that stern action against the MLAs was the only option to set a precedent for future in all units in such abberations, the panel deemed it proper to assess the matter afresh, also taking into account almsot all the MLAs have raised queries in one voice over the parametres that were adopted by the high command in identifying them as having indulged in cross voting. Sources said the matter which initially appeared straight and simple has now become complex for the Disciplinary panel as also the high command which is in dilemma over the course of action that should be taken even though they maintained it from the beginning that tough and stern action would be taken against guilty MLAs. The panel and the national leadership is exmaining the pros and cons of the decision against the MLAs, and the political implications it can have in the state as also for the party in J&K, sources added. While the panel wants to ascertain afresh whether all the MLAs who have been suspended are actually guilty and those given clean clean chit are innocent before atking a final view, the central leadership also appears to be in a dilemma in view of the complexities that have emerged after the susupended MLAs made brazen and daring 'pronouncements,' in terms of political status. Sources also said that majority of the members have raised fingers also towards the role and responsibility of the state presidnet Shamsher SIngh Manhas who is already in dock after vice president of the party Anil Gupta made scathing attack against his conduct as the chief as biased and prejudiced, the panel members are also looking into this related aspect of allegations in the matter. Even though putting off the final decision is being seen as delaying tactcis to linger on the issue, sources said the empowered panel doesn't want to make any 'erroneous' judgement in the matter. Certain fresh developments and complexities have added to the dillema which is why the panel is in a fix to take a final decision, sources added. |
