Soz assures full support to Azad for launching massive developmental activities
Soz, Peerzada, Mangat pay tributes to Mrs. Gandhi, highlight achievements of coalition government

Jammu, Nov 19
Union Minister for Water Resources Prof. Saif-ud-Din Soz assured on Sunday full support to Chief Minister Mr. Ghulam Nabi Azad in his mission of reconstruction and development of Jammu and Kashmir state and said, “I have decided to support Mr. Azad to the best of my ability in his efforts for reconstruction and development of Jammu and Kashmir”.
Addressing largely attended public meeting at Parade Ground here held to pay homage to late Mrs. Indira Gandhi, Prof. Soz said that the centre is at the back of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and every assistance would be provided to the state to ensure its integrated development.
Giving details of the support and assistance union ministry under his charge has announced to the state, he said that out of Rs. 75 crore minor irrigation programme for Jammu division, 62 projects estimating to cost Rs. 52 crore have been approved by the centre while as Rs. 6 crore have been sanctioned for Chenab plan for current year and Rs. 7.08 crore for Devak catchment in Udhampur.
Prof. Soz said that survey for tapping irrigation potential and upgrading drinking water facilities in kandi areas of Jammu, Kathua, Hiranagar, Dansal, Akhnoor and districts of Doda, Rajouri, Udhampur and Poonch is being conducted to formulate a comprehensive project for implementation. He said projects for checkdams, water harvesting and Bhadarwah Kandi canal have also been approved. He said details about requirements of the state relating to the water resources ministry would be discussed at a joint meeting of officers tomorrow to work out areas to be supported by the central government.
Speaking on the occasion, JKPCC President and Minister for School Education Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed paid rich tributes to Mrs. Indira Gandhi and said that it was the leadership of Mrs. Gandhi which strengthened the solidarity and carried forward the country towards goal of progress and development.
Peerzada said that the coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir state has fulfilled all commitments made to people in the election manifesto and CMP. He said democracy and self-rule already exist in the state and people’s elected representatives right from local bodies, panchayats to the state legislature run the affairs of government.
Minister for Health and Medical Education Mr. Mangat Ram Sharma taking dig on those carrying the bogey of self-rule slogan described it hollow propaganda aimed at dividing the society for vested interests. He said nobody will be allowed to divide the unity of the state and disintegrate its bonds by exploiting sentiments of people on one or other pretext.
He paid highest tributes to Mrs. Indira Gandhi saying that the leader of millennium laid her life for upkeeping the solidarity and integrity of the nation.
Minister for R&B Mr. Gulchain Singh Charak, Parliament Members Mr. Madan Lal Sharma and Ch. Lal Singh in their speeches said that Mrs. Indira Gandhi’s life is beacon for all to imbibe high values of patriotism, selflessness and zest to serve people irrespective of their creed or caste.
They lauded the role of Mr. Azad saying that one year’s achievements of man of masses speak itself loud and clear on the ground. It is for the first time in last 58 years that all areas of the state witnessed unabated works programme in single, double and triple shifts, they added.
Legislators Mr. Raman Bhalla, Mr. Yogesh Sawhney, Mr. Sham Lal Sharma, Mrs. Suman Lata Bhagat and Mr. Praduman Singh, Mayor Jammu Municipal Corporation Ch. Manmohan Singh, President Pradesh Youth Congress Mr. Mohammad Amin Bhat and other senior Congress leaders also spoke on the occasion and showered petals of tributes on Mrs. Indira Gandhi recalling her outstanding and historic sacrifice.
