Private college teachers go on indefinite strike | | | EARLY TIMERS REPORT Jammu, May 11: Demanding hike in salaries on the pattern of Sixth Pay Commission, over a hundred teachers of a private college today staged a protest and refused to take classes in this winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir.
"The entire staff of Mahant Bachitter Singh College of Engineering and Technology, at Jeevan Nagar, Digiana, this morning refused to take routine classes and demonstrated against the college authorities for not giving hike in salaries despite assurances for the past 2-3 years," a college teacher pleading anonymity said.
He said the authorities assured them that the salaries would be hiked only after there the fee is hiked adding, "After being granted permission from the government, the college have hiked the fee of the students by 35 per cent but the salaries remained the same." The protesting staff also alleged that those who opposed against the authorities were fired.
A total 125 teachers are engaged and 2000 students are studying in the college in different streams.
