31 member J&K environment and ecology committee formed | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu 11 May, 2011 Former Minister Randhir Singh, NCP chief J&K state who is also the national president of Aromatic and Medicinal Plants Growers Association of India while addressing media persons in central office of the party at Jammu said that he has formed a powerful 31 members J&K environment and ecology committee which will have district and block committees with complete agenda. Randhir Singh will be the chief patron of the committee, O P Thakur advocate will be the chief organizer, Sudershan Choudhary, will be the president of high power committee, G M Pal and Romal Singh will be the vice presidents and R S Billowaria will be the general secretary. Singh said the Global warming is global warming from nature “Together let us take a pledge to protect the environment and save the mother earth”. On the formation of this body Singh who has completed 50 years of his political career and was grounded in the state as youngest MLA , minister and social activist said it is an NCP initiative beyond politics and has appealed to all nature loving people of the state men, women and particularly youth belonging to all sections of the society to take a pledge to protect the environment , the forest , the rivers in the state . Singh has asked the committee members to monitor very closely the development works in the state and not allow polluted industries to be set up in the state after acquiring fertile land from the farmers depriving them from their livelihood. Singh said that he has already taken up the issues of Ghati Industrial Estate with state chief minister Omar Abdullah ,the environment minister of the country and the Union Agriculture Minister not to set up Industrial Estate by SIDCO which has acquired 9000 Kanals of agriculture land from the farmers in patwar Kalna , Nanan, Pandrar and Ghati near Jasrota wildlife sanctuary. Singh said due to chemical factories put up at Samba Hatli Morh, Kathua and Mushroom growth of Brick Kilns , Limestone Kilns, stone crushers a continuous polluting rivers like Tawi ,Jhelum , Basantar, Ujh ,Ranbir canal ,Dul lake has affected the lives of farmers , agriculture and general health of the people . Jammu town because of heavy transportation and bad sewerage system has become health hazard for the people. Singh in detailed letter to the Chief Minister against the brick kilns, stone crushers limestone factories in the state and reckless cutting of forests in Jammu division and also in Kashmir said is a warning. He said if chief minister and his govt don’t take immediate action, the state NCP and particular the J&K Environment and ecology committee will come to the streets and will organize the people to save the environment. Singh said that he will invite environmentalist and ecologists of the state who are already working in the field to get together and fight against the forces who are destroying our forests , rivers , roads, cities , water bodies, natural springs, wildlife , forts ,archaeological sites, mountaineering tracts for which the state of J&K are richest in the world including the most valuable wealth of the state our Aromatic and Medicinal plants which can attract more tourists from all over the world in three regions of the state .
