| 11 shops looted in one go, thieves decamp with valuables worth lakhs | | | UDHAMPUR NOV 19 During the intervening night of 18-19 November, a group of thieves looted 11 shops in Udhampur town and decamped with valuables worth several lakhs of rupees. After breaking open the Dogra Electronic Shop, distributor of Nokia cell phones, the thieves looted nearly 20 cell phones worth thousands of rupees followed by looting of other ten shops in Gole market and decamped with large quantity of goods, other valuables and cash. The shops looted included cloth house, Kiryana, Provisional, and hardware shops. After noticing the locks of their establishments open this morning and goods missing, the affected shopkeepers staged a protest demonstration and criticized the role of local police in failing in their duty to apprehend the gang involved in thefts. The town, in the recent past has witnessed large- scale theft cases with Police having failed to even solve a single case, they alleged. Police later registered a case and started a hunt to apprehend the burglars.
