Disciplinary committee under pressure, asked to go low against suspended MLAs | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 11: The BJP Central leadership is undecided over the fate of seven suspended MLAs as the Party High Command and Disciplinary Committee is itself in a quandary regarding the final decision. According to Party sources the Disciplinary Committee which met at Union Capital yesterday has been under constant pressure from some senior national leaders of the Party who want the action against the seven MLAs should not only deferred but also but stopped completely. The senior leaders believed to have proximity with seven MLAs have given well thought to the question posed by all the seven MLAs that what parameters were used for singling out the seven MLAs after resignation was sought from all 11 Legislators of the Party suspecting their involvement in cross voting. Supporting this argument some senior leaders have influenced the Disciplinary Committee of the Party not to take any further step in haste as it will prove tantamount to Party interests in a sensitive state like J&K, sources said. These leaders, while expressing their displeasure over the earlier decision have urged the Party High Command to maintain restraint and wait and watch situation as any step taken in the haste will not be in the interests of BJP in future. Sources said such a strong resentment by a section of senior leadership in Delhi has prompted the Disciplinary Committee to defer the decision till May 20. However ripples continue within the BJP with suspended MLAs also ready to toughen their stand against the High Command, sources added. Sources said that High Command which was quick about action during the first day of cross voting on April 13 soon after it came to know about the happenings is now in a quandary whether go ahead with expulsion of the suspended MLAs or revoke the decision in view of the strong observations made by the senior party leaders in Delhi. Sources said that these leaders also have sought a reply from High Command that why the action was not taken against the cross voting during the earlier occasions when two party MLAs cross voted that resulted in the election of its candidate and present Party chief Shamsher Singh Mans to Legislative Council in 2009 and later when same practice was repeated by a Party MLA who voted in favour of NC candidate and Union Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah for his election to Rajya Sabha. Sources said the seven suspended MLAs position is becoming so strong day by day that they call shots as they are confident that their case is legally as well as politically becoming more stronger day by day. And to add to the embarrassment of the High Command these MLAs do not hesitate in firing a salvo every day. |
