Drug, Food control department realizes Rs 21995 fine | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, MAY 12 – The teams of Drug and Food Control Organization challaned 110 persons during last month for smoking in public places across the state, while four establishments were penalized for selling cigarettes and other Tobacco products to the minors.
The teams also challaned 73 establishments found selling cigarettes and other Tobacco products within a radius of 100 yards of educational institutions.
A total of Rs.21995 was realized as fine during the period from the persons/vendors for violation of various provision of the Section 4 (prohibition of smoking in public places) of Cigarettes and other Tobacco products (Prohibition of Advertisement and Regulation of Trade and Commerce, Production, supply and distribution) Act 2003.
Also the advertisement materials found displayed at the different establishments that was in contravention of the Section 5 (Prohibition of Advertisement of Cigarette or other tobacco products was removed.
All the stockiest/wholesalers/retailers dealing with cigarettes and other Tobacco products are impressed upon not to sell the cigarette or other tobacco products in area within a radius of one hundred yards from the educational institutions.
Also it is appealed to the public not to smoke especially in public places as the passive smoking is equally harmful as active smoking. Moreover, the entire owner or manager or any person incharge of the education institutions are requested to display a board at a conspicuous place (s) outside the premises of the following manner:
“Sale of cigarette and other tobacco products in a area within a radius of the 100 yards of the educational institution is strictly prohibited and that is an offence punishable with the fine which may be extend to two hundred rupees”.
