JU plans fencing infrastructure on campus

JAMMU, May 12: To further boost the medal winning game of fencing in Jammu and Kashmir, the University of Jammu (JU) has formulated a comprehensive plan to develop state of the art infrastructure on the campus.
In this regard, the JU has already initiated the process and a blue print is in the making with financial assistance from the University Grants Commission (UGC) and a Member Parliament from Jammu.
This was disclosed by Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau speaking on the valedictory function of the district fencing championship.
Amidst cheering from the budding fencers, Prof Bhau said, “Member Parliament, Madan Lal Sharma has already agreed upon to extend an initial financial assistance of Rs 50 lakh out of his constituency development fund for the state of the art indoor facility for fencing on the campus.”
He further informed that UGC has also expressed willingness to fund the mega project of Rs seven crore.
It is pertinent to mention here that JU is winning overall championship trophy in All India Inter-University Fencing Championship for the last two years.
Earlier, chief guest, Prof Dhian Singh Bhau witnessed the finals of senior boys of under-20 years and gave away medals to the winners of different age groups. A host of other guests, parents and members of the J&K Fencing Association were among those present.

The Detailed Results:
BOYS U-20 YEAR: Sabre Individual: Vishal Thapper, gold; Javed Ahmed, silver; Sushant Kumar and Adhirath, bronze. Foil Individual: Gurssharan Singh, gold; Tariq Ahmed, silver; Dushant and Satish, bronze. Epee Individual: Vir Sangram Singh, gold; Teja Singh, silver; Mehashwar and Abhisekh, bronze.
