Jammu students fight it out at IGNOU quiz | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 12: A record 130 teams participated in IGNITE 2011, a mutli-city, inter-school quiz contest organised by the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) at the Government Polytechnic College here on May 12. Maninder Singh and Ayushman Mukherjee of Army School, Kaluchak, lifted the trophy while Faisal and Manjot of J.P World School were the runners-up in the event, attended by over 130 teams representing various city schools. Some of the questions, posed by the quizmaster Adittya Mobayi, were answered without much difficulty by the participating teams, but some made the participants think hard. The auditorium was full to capacity with students cheering their school teams with loud clapping and shouts. Addressing the students, chief guest K.K. Bhat, Regional Director of the Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU), said the idea of such events is to ignite students' interest in higher education and make them aware of the Open and Distance Learning System. The Quiz started with a written elimination round of 20 questions in which all the students present in the hall were asked to participate. Out of these, six teams were selected for the next and final round. A panel exhibition and a flash presentation were also organised to make the students aware of various programmes being offered by IGNOU. Jammu was the eighth city where IGNITE 2011 was organised. Before this, the quiz contest was held in Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Bangalore, Kochi, Ahmedabad and Chandigarh. IGNITE 2011 will be held in some other cities before the grand finale of the winning teams in Delhi.
