One-way traffic on Srinagar-Leh highway from today | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT SRINAGAR, May 12: The authorities have decided to allow only one-way traffic on the national highway, connecting the Ladakh region with the rest of the country from today for one week. The decision was taken to allow Border Roads Organisation (BRO) to repair of the highway and also to avoid any traffic jam, which was put through recently after remaining closed for six winter months due to heavy snowfall. An official spokesman said no vehicle was allowed from Srinagar to Leh this morning. As per the decision taken at a high level officers’ meeting held here under the Chairmanship of Minister for Transport Qamar Ali Akhoon vehicles from Kargil will ply on the highway towards Srinagar. The meeting also fixed the schedule timing for up and down convoys during summer months. The vehicles from Kargil for down convoy to Sonamarg would be allowed at 0400 hrs from Drass, second coldest place in the world after Siberia on the highway at 0600 hrs and Gumri 1000 hrs and will have to clear Sonamarg by 1100 hrs. The vehicles from Sonamarg would be allowed to move towards Kargil from 1100 hrs onwards. According to the schedule light vehicles would be allowed first followed by passenger buses and civil trucks and thereafter army convoy.
