JMC continues drive against adulteration

Jammu, May 12: Jammu Municipal Corporation alongwith team of food inspectors continued the drive to check the quality of food items and inspected about 260 food establishments like Dhabas / restaurants, fruit juice shops, tea stalls, milk & milk product shops / vendors, sweet shops lassi counters, bakery shops, cut fruits / sugar canes juice rehries, meat & chicken shops etc. in the areas of BC Road, Indira Chowk, Hari Market, Ragunath Bazar, Parade, Shalamar Road, City Chowk, Residency Road, Gandhi Nagar, Shastri Nagar, Nanak Nagar etc.
The drive was held under the chairmanship of S.C Sawhney Commissioner, Municipal Corporation Jammu.
During the inspection 54 defaulters were booked under the provisions of Prevention of Food Adulteration Act 1954 and J&K Municipal Corporation Act, 2000. An amount of Rs. 11700was charged as fine from the defaulters and about 60 Kgs of sweets, cooked food, ice cream and 30 Kgs of cut fruits which were not fit for human consumption were destroyed on spot.
The team also seized polythene carry bags from various food establishments in these areas and was instructed not to use polythene carry bags.
Further, all the food establishment owners were strictly warned to adhere to the terms and conditions of PFA licenses and keep their premises neat and clean for ensuring supply of pure & good quality of food items to the customers and also to keep garbage of their premises in dustbin and not to throw it on roads / footpaths and keep the same at the nearby garbage collection point / dustbin of Jammu Municipal Corporation kept for the collection of the same.
Besides this while continuing the extensive sanitation drive launched by the Jammu Municipal Corporation S.C. Sawhney Commissioner alongwith team of senior officers & subordinate field staff of Jammu Municipal Corporation visited ward No 18, 36 & 62 as a part of sanitation drive and took stock of the sanitation work being done by the sanitation staff in these wards.
