GOC-in-C Northern Command apprised on Kashmir situation | | | EARLY TIMES REPIORT SRINAGAR, May 13 : Lt General K T Parnaik, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Northern Command, was today briefed about the overall situation in the Kashmir valley and measures being taken to thwart infiltration attempts by militants from across the border. Official sources said Lt Gen Parnaik, who arrived here today, was received by Lt Gen S A Hasnain, GOC Chinar Corps. Senior Army officers briefed Gen Parnaik about the overall law and order situation in the valley. He also visited Army installation around the summer capital, Srinagar, the sources added. The sources said Lt Gen Parnaik was told about melting of snow on the infiltration routes due to increase in the temperature. More than 500 militants are waiting at launching pads near the Line of Control in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir to sneak into this side. Gen Parnaik was told about the measures already taken by the field commanders to thwart any infiltration attempt from across the border in summer months.
