Crisis in state BJP take new turn, Manhas writes to Speaker regarding change in leadership | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 13: The crisis in state unit of BJP have taken a new turn today after its president Shamsher Singh Manhas has written a letter to Speaker of State Assembly, Mohammed Akbar Lone informing it appointment of Jugal Kishore Sharma as leader of Party’s Legislative Party group. In the letter Mr Manhas has informed the Speaker since the Party has suspended seven MLAs including , Prof Chaman Lal Gupta he ceases to be the Leader of its Legislative Party and hence forth Party Deputy leader Jugal Kishore Sharma be treated as the new leader of the Party. Sources said that the letter was personally handed over to Mr Lone by BJP’s chip whip in the Assembly Ashok Khajuria who left for Summer Capital early this morning. The BJP state chief was prompted to write the letter to Speaker in the wake of individual letters written by Prof Gupta to all eleven MLAs of the Party asking them to elicit their opinion on the prevailing crisis in the party that gripped it after the April 13 cross voting episode in Legislative Council by seven MLAs of the Party that resulted in seeking of the resignation of all eleven MLAs by Party High Command and suspension of seven MLAs. Prof Gupta has written the letter in his capacity as leader of the Legislative party. However the four MLAs of BJP have not responded to this letter and instead intensified their campaign for ouster of the suspended MLAs, sources said, adding it is they who instead asked Mr Manhas to dash a letter to the Speaker of the Assembly asking him not to entertain Prof Gupta as the leader of the Legislative Party hence forth diminishing the chances of their re-approachment. Sources said though Mr Manhas is also under constant pressure from certain leaders in the Party to go for action against the suspended MLAs as early as possible despite the fact that some senior leaders of the Party in Union Capital have advised against it. Sources said bowing to the wishes of these leaders Mr Manhas who is also facing a severe criticism from a section within the Party was left with no alternative except to dash the letter to Speaker of the Assembly. Meanwhile the oust Manhas campaign is also gaining momentum in the Party as its activists are daily receiving umpteen SMSAs in this regard daily. Some of these SMSs read that Party High Command has decided to replace Manhas and names of two senior leaders are making round in this regard. Some people have projected an unknown face from Rajouri as the alternative to Mr Manhas incase High Command is willing to replace him. This junior activist who is very close to RSS leadership is being tipped as the future president of the party in the state, sources said.
