| Panchayat elections to Kathua block on May 16 | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
KATHUA, MAY 14 – The polls, under the multi phased Panchayat elections, for the Kathua block would be held under the 9th phase scheduled for May 16, 2011.
Kathua block have 39 Panchayat Halqas with 250 panch constituencies. As many as 250 polling stations, to be manned by 13 Returning Officers and 26 Assistant Returning Officers, have been established across the border block for ensuring smooth polling.
Kathua block have a total of 47516 electorates out of which 25215 are male voters and 22301 are female voters.
As many as 217 candidates, including 11 females are in the fray for sarpanch seats, while 566 candidates(233 females) are in the fray for192 panch constituencies.
58 panches have been elected un-opposed out of which 39 are male and 19 female.
It is pertinent to mention here that Panchayat elections in Lohai- Malhar, Duggan and Bani blocks were held under 4thphase whereas polls for Basohli ,Billawar, Hirnagar and Barnoti blocks of the district were held under 5th,6th,7th and 8thphase
