DSP drives car with fake registration No, booked | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 14: A crime branch (CB) DSP today fell in traffic police dragnet as he was found driving a Swift car which supported a fake registration number plate, notwithstanding the recovery of "stolen" cars from police officers and their kins few years back. CB DSP Shafqat Ahmad was driving a Swift car when traffic police cops stopped him during routine checking of vehicles in the city, according to police sources. During the checking of car's registration papers, the cops found that the number on its front and rear plates were different from what it was in the documents. The cops brought the matter to the notice of traffic police IG Hemant Lohia who, in turn, lodged a complaint with Pacca Danga police station in this regard. A case in this connection was registered against the DSP under sections 420, 468 and 471 of RPC. Though CB officials later sought to clarify that the car belonged to the DSP's friend, sources said investigation in the case was in progress. Few years back, several cars, which police had recovered from vehicle lifters, were found in possession of some "high-profile" police officers. These cars had been stolen by the car lifters from different parts of the country. Though the cars were recovered, no legal or disciplinary action was taken against the officers.
