Saraf’s controversial book withdrawn from Govt schools | | | ET Impact Early Times Report Jammu, May 14: Following severe reaction from the people of Jammu, the government has finally ordered withdrawal of RP Saraf’s controversial book from government school libraries.
The controversial book has been purchased by a number of Jammu province-based libraries and educational institutions. It was on February 14, 2011 that the Director School Education, Jammu, issued the controversial order vide No DSEJ/Acctts/5409-20, dated 14-02-2011 for purchase of the book for government school libraries. The book has been published by Nature Human Centric People’s Movement, India and Nice Printing Press, Gaziabad (UP), has printed the book.
The book, it may be mentioned, seeks Azadi for Kashmir and holds New Delhi responsible for all the mess in conflict torn Valley. “The book promotes separatism and hatred for India and the Indian political and constitutional system could be seen from the fact that the book has sought its readers to believe that Jammu Kashmir is a disputed territory and for resolving the problem, it should be constitutionally accepted as an independent state enjoying sovereign powers in all matters, except defense and foreign affairs, which should be entrusted to a joint Condominium of India and Pakistan”, wrote an eminent columnist of the state last week.
Gulzar Ahmed Qureshi director education, said: “We had placed order on the recommendation of the committee during a book fair organized by the Directorate of School Education, Jammu, on January 18-19, 2011 in Government Girls Higher Secondary School, Shastri Nagar. Now we have rescinded the order and withdrawn the books from the shelves of the libraries.
The Education Minister has sought an explanation from the concerned.
Saraf was a known Naxalite, supporter of the Chinese Communist Party and a sympathizer and supporter of Kashmiri separatists and communalists. Born at Samba in 1924, Saraf remained in jail for several years, as his activities were considered anti-national. He was once arrested under Defense of India Rules for supporting the stand of the Chinese Communist Party on India. Saraf also remained underground for several years.
