Attempt to murder case against 3 GMCH docs for beating attendant | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT JAMMU, May 14: Instead of providing him succour, three government medical college hospital (GMCH) doctors today ruthlessly beat up a person when he approached one of them for the treatment of his daughter whose body had unusually swollen due to snake bite. The incident took place at about 8.30 am in ward No 15 where Nazir Ahmad's daughter Salima Bi (18) was admitted last night for the treatment of snake bite. Nazir, who originally hails from Ramban, was at present putting up near Bishnah where a snake bit Salima last night. Soon thereafter she was admitted to ward No 15 of GMCH, police sources said. As the girl's body swelled this morning, the worried Nazir repeatedly approached doctors but no one came to examine Salima. This led to a verbal duel between him and Dr Avinash Sudan of R S Pura who was on duty that time, the sources added. Dr Sudan later returned to doctors' room and asked two hospital guards to call Nazir there. Sources said when the guards brought him to the room, Dr Sudan and to other doctors allegedly started kicking and slapping him. They also allegedly kicked him in the stomach, resulting in some serious internal injury to him, the sources added. The doctors later fled the hospital. Nazir was shifted to hospital's emergency wing where his condition was stated to be critical. Nazir's family and relatives later held a demonstration against the doctors inside the hospital premises. While they protested, divisional commissioner Pawan Kotwal happened to come there. Following an assurance by him that justice would be done in the case, the protesters dispersed peacefully. Police later registered a case against the three doctors under section 307 of RPC. While the doctors had gone underground, the two guards had been picked up by police.
