Holy ice Shivlingam fully formed, yatris' registration
5/15/2011 10:21:32 PM
EARLY TIMES REPORT
Srinagar, May 15: The self-made ice Shivlingam has been fully formed in the Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas while registration of yatris for the 46-day-long annual pilgrimage commencing from June 29.
The yatra will conclude on August 13, the Rakshabandhan day.
Official sources said the Shivlingam has been fully formed in the cave shrine, which can be covered through shortest Baltal and traditional Pahalgam routes on foot and ponies.
However, for the past some years, helicopter service has also been introduced for the pilgrimage.

Both Baltal and Pahalgam routes are covered under several feet of snow. However, authorities had started track clearance operation from last week to make both the routes safe for undertaking the pilgrimage.
As the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) has decided not to allow any yatri without proper yatra slip, the process of registration across the country in 149 bank branches and through e-Registration has started.
Reviewing the progress of the yatris' registration, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) SASB R K Goyal, said the registration of yatris has been progressing steadily since May 10.

He said 80,313 yatris have since secured the Yatra Permits through internet based e-Registration facility and 149 Bank Branches spread across various states, during the first four days.
The CEO informed that of the 80,313 pilgrims, 43,435 have opted for traditional Pahalgam route and 36,878 have secured registration for the Baltal route.
As per the available reports, about 17,000 pilgrims have availed the e-Registration facility.
"The Board is providing, free of cost insurance cover of Rs one lakh for all the registered pilgrims," the CEO added.
He appealed to all the intending yatris to secure, in their own interest, a valid Yatra Permit through one of the 149 Bank Branches or get themselves registered online to avoid any inconvenience on arrival in Jammu and Kashmir.
