Life returns to normal in Kashmir after general strike | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Srinagar, May 15: Life returned to normalcy in the Kashmir, after a general strike was observed yesterday on a call given by the breakaway Hurriyat Conference (HC), demanding release of all detenues and registered protest against alleged continued arrests of youths in the Valley. Shops and business establishments, which remained open on Sundays, were functioning normally since this morning.
Traffic on all routes was normal.
Hundreds of vendors had put up their stalls on about 3-km-long Sunday market from Radio Kashmir Srinagar crossing to Jehangir chowk, which attracts thousands of people from different parts of the country.
The vendors suffered huge losses during last summer when the markets remained closed due to curfew restrictions and frequent hartal calls.
People, including tourists, were seen visiting Mughal gardens and Dal Lake since this morning.
Reports of normalcy were also reported from other district and tehsil headquarters in the Valley.
