JAMMU, May 15: Sailing on superb innings of 59 runs from Rajeev Seth, Modern Cricket Club (MCC) today trounced the Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) XI by 91 runs on way to the second round of ongoing 2nd Prof Pran Nath Malhotra Memorial Cricket Tournament at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here.
Moreover, Rajeev was instrumental in two partnerships with Manjeet Singh (39) and Vishal Mahajan (47), which propelled MCC to a challenging total of 201 runs in 40.1 overs of the 50 overs match. In reply, DYSS XI could not chase the total and the whole side bowled out for 110 runs.
Earlier, batting first after winning the toss, MCC were struggling at 100 for seven in 20.1 overs but Rajeev played sensible innings and helped the side surpassed the 200 mark. Rajeev made highest 59 runs with the help of four boundaries.
Surjit Singh, Shalinder Slathia and Anumodan were other main contributors with 21, 18 and 15 runs respectively. Jagtar Singh was most successful bowler from DYSS XI with three wickets while Pankaj Sasan also bowled well to take three wickets.
Later, chasing the target, DYSS lost the opening batsman, Arshad on the very first ball of the innings. Arshad was clean-bowled on a full-toss from pacer Manjit Singh. However, skipper Rajesh Dhar and Suresh Singh put in some resistance but unable to maintain the required run rate. Suresh Singh was caught behind at team’s total of 23 runs.
It was followed by fall of wickets at regular intervals and the whole side bowled out for 110 runs. Harvinder Singh was the top scorer with 44 runs including six boundaries. Gurvinder Singh, Suresh Singh, Pankaj Sasan and Rajesh Dhar contributed 16, 13, 11 and nine runs respectively.
