| Panchayat Elections 2011 Zonal, sectoral magistrates sensitized about election procedure | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT
DODA, May 15: Assistant Commissioner Development, Doda, R A Chowdhary today convened a meeting of the Zonal and Sectoral Magistrates to be deployed in four Blocks of Gundna, Bhagwah, Bhaderwah and Gandoh for the conduct of Panchayat Election in the District and sensitized them about the election procedure.
Tehsildar Elections Doda, Abdul Latief, and Tehsildar Doda were also present in the meeting.
Speaking on the occasion, ACD apprised the Magistrates about the guidelines and the powers guaranteed to them under the law regarding Panchayati Elections.
ACD also revealed that the Zonal and Sectoral Magistrates have to keep close eye on the activities of the contesting candidates and their agents with reference to Election Model Code of Conduct and report to DPEO.
He said that before election/ polling day the magistrates will have to move their area for physical verification of polling stations and report to DPEO whether the building of polling station is fit for poll or not and on the day of polling they will have to report back whether the polling has started in all their polling stations within the area of their responsibility. Moreover they will have to communicate the developments taking place in and around their polling stations and ensure free and fair polling and will also have to ensure that the Ballot Boxes are properly functioning in all the polling stations.
In addition to these responsibilities they have to communicate the number of votes polled with gender ratio in their respective area, communicate about conclusion of polling and the completion of post polling paper work, communicate about the movement back of the polling parties to the counting centres after completion of poll and after counting they will have to ensure the depositing of election material at Block Headquarter on same day or next day of poll/counting.
Besides, this on the day of distribution of election material to polling parties, they will report to DPEO and concerned BDO whether the polling parties have reached at their polling stations.
