CEC on forest meets Guv | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 16: Central Empowered Committee (CEC) constituted by Supreme Court to deal with cases pertaining to forests, environment and wildlife, currently on a visit of Jammu and Kashmir, met Governor N. N. Vohra, at Raj Bhavan, here last evening. During an hour long meeting, the Committee, headed by its Chairman, P. V. Jayakrishnan, discussed with the Governor the aims and objects of their visit to the State. The members of the Committee, who met the Governor, included Mahendra Vyas, M. K. Muthoo, A. D. N. Rao and Sidharth Choudhary. Also present was Shantmanu, Commissioner/Secretary, Forests, who is coordinating the Committee’s visit to J&K. Committee will undertake site visits and hear various concerned persons and parties, particularly the stakeholders, in regard to the location of wood based units, saw mills, veneer and plywood units, which are near forests and are required to be relocated. The Committee will also visit Jammu for two days and listen to the stakeholders about such cases as well as vis-à-vis cases in regard to felling of Khair trees.
