Paharis meet European Union delegation, demand ST status

JAMMU, May 16: A deputation of Pahari Students Samaj Front met European delegation at Hari Niwas Palace wherein Sheikh Abdul Rashid presented a memorandum of demands pertaining to conferment of Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to Pahari speaking people of J&K.
The memorandum was presented to delegate member of the delegation of the European commission to India, Nepal and Bhutan Anne Vauger Chatterjee alongwith Philip Oliver Gross, First Secretary political affairs of delegation of the European Union to India. Spokesman of the Front Syed Zeshan Kazmi appraised delegates about the plight of Pahari speaking people.
Kazmi further informed the delegates that the Scheduled Tribe status to the Pahari speaking people of the J&K was again reaffirmed and recommended by justice Sagheer report but due to apathy of the ruling government, nothing has been decided yet. In response, delegates assured them of every possible help. Others who were present were Bhanu Pratap, Divjyot Singh, Sameer Malik, Yasir Chak, Mehmood Ajaz and others.
