Police beat up college student, people protest | | | JAMMU, May 16: Over an alleged incident of police beating up a college student, people today held an anti-police protest, while family moved court. B Com part II student Manpreet Singh, son of Manjeet Singh of Nanak Nagar sector 12, and three youth, who were riding another motorcycle, were intercepted by cops outside a petrol pump at Gandhinagar last evening. The cops took out the keys from the two mobikes and asked all of them to accompany them to the nearby Gandhinagar police station.While the three youth managed to flee the spot on their mobike as they had a duplicate key with them, Manpreet followed the cops to the police station. At the police station, cops asked him about the identity of the three youth who had given them a slip. Since he did not know about the three escaped youth, cops beat him up for no fault of his, claimed the family members.He was released by the cops late in the evening. Reaching home, he apprised the family of the incident and also showed them his wounds. The family today moved court and also held an anti-police demonstration inside the GMC hospital premises where they had gone for Manpreet's medical examination. They were demanding action against the SSP on whose alleged orders Manpreet was beaten up by the cops.
