Delhi faculty holds workshop for IAS, KAS

JAMMU, May 17: To make young aspirants of IAS and KAS of Jammu and Kashmir about the basic nature of the subject, SR College of Competitions, here today organized a workshop on Political Science subject inviting specialized faculty from Delhi.
The participating target students were made aware of the strategy to select and then prepare the subject. Inspired by the recent IAS selections from Jammu and Kashmir, the visiting faculty from Medha IAS-a Delhi based institute guiding the students for UPSC examinations, Vikas Singh also recommended books for preparations.
He imparted tips about answer writing skills in the mains examination and approach to choose subject material recommended by him for the UPSC.
“The basic reason as it was discussed behind the failure of aspirants is that they go through number of books without concentrating on the basic concepts. It was, therefore, recommended that few important books should be selected and emphasis should be given on concept building,” said Singh.
He further informed that important classics can be helpful in building concepts, provided students grasp them under an expert advice. It also emerged from the discussion that subjects such as Political Science can be extremely helpful to a Civil Servant who needs to work under our constitutional set-up which provides leading role to the political leaders.
The participants, who turned up in a good number, cleared their doubts in a question-answer session held during the seminar.
Most of the queries were related to the changing pattern of the examinations as UPSC has adopted a new pattern which includes CSAT (Civil Services Aptitude Test) in place of the traditional scheme having an optional with a General Studies paper.
The two-hour long seminar was wounded up by the chairman of the College, Parveen Kumar Sharma, who also shared his experiences with the students. He also congratulated the all the students who have made it to the Civil Services in the recently announced result and wished them a successful career in the service of the Nation.
The participants informed that similar thought provoking discussions would be organized regarding other optional subjects in near future also.
