World telecom day celebrations at MIET | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 17: Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) Jammu today celebrated World Telecom Day. Student Chapter of ISTE at MIET organized a Seminar on the topic ‘Better life in rural Communities with ICTs’ which was attended by students and faculty members of department of electronics and communication engineering. World telecom day is celebrated to commemorate beginning of telecom era. Chairman MIER Group of Institutions Dr. Arun Gupta has always encouraged celebrations of such prestigious days to commemorate their importance and also to instill in students the necessity of research in these fields. Dr. Renu Gupta, Director MIET has been giving all the help in organization of such events. Head of Department of Physics & Electronics, University of Jammu Prof. Rajni Kant, who was the Chief Guest for this function in his inaugural address highlighted the importance of telecommunications and gave out the intimate relationship between the telecommunication and the evolution of the human race. Maj Gen. S.K.Sharma AVSM (Retd), gave the key note address, highlighted importance of this day and stressed need for undertaking practical projects useful to the society especially in the rural areas. Dr. Ankur Gupta, Joint Director, MIET was also present on the occasion and highlighted the need to bring out new innovations in telecom to meet the need of the less privileged sections of society. Event was organized under the guidance of Prof. S.K. Puri, Head of Electronics and Communication Engineering and Dr. Parshotam Sharma, Coordinator, ECE. Six students presented paper on latest telecommunication technologies like CDMA , GSM, Automatic Mobile Charging, Laser based Wireless communication etc., which were greatly appreciated by the Chief Guest and the audience
