8 new polytechnics coming up in J&K | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 17: Jammu and Kashmir government today decided to start construction of eight polytechnics, four each in Kashmir and Jammu regions, among the 17 new polytechnics being set up under the Skill Development Mission.
This was decided at a meeting of officers and engineers presided over by Chief Secretary, Madhav Lal here this afternoon. Polytechnics on which work would be started include Baramulla, Pulwama, Bandipora and Ganderbal in Kashmir province and Doda, Kishtwar, Reasi and Poonch in Jammu province. JKPCC would execute the works which has been directed to start the work within a week’s time.
Chief Secretary directed the JKPCC to complete the works and make the polytechnics functional within a year so that regular classes are started in them from next year. The meeting also decided to put construction of remaining nine polytechnics on the tendering mode for the Chief Engineer, R& B, Kashmir was directed to complete the necessary formalities within the shortest period before the works are allotted.
The Chief Secretary directed dovetailing the land development works at these polytechnics with NREGA in order to rationalize the costs. He also directed appointing nodal officers for each polytechnic so that works are co ordinate and paced up. Among others, the meeting was attended by Commissioner-Secretary, Finance Department, Commissioner-Secretary, Technical Education, Bashir Runiyal, Director, Technical Education, Sourabh Bhagat, Managing Director (MD) JKPCC, Tehseen Mustafa, Joint Development Commissioner, Chief Engineer, Nazir Ahmad and other senior officers.
