Soz satisfied over large turnout in Panchayat elections | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 17: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) chief Saifuddin Soz has expressed great satisfaction on the large turnout of people in the ongoing Panchayat elections in the state, particularly in Kashmir Valley. He said that this would strengthen democracy at the grass root level, by empowering rural people to have a say in management of their economic, social and political development. Addressing a meeting of PCC, DCC and BCC office bearers at PCC headquarters Shaheedi Chowk, the PCC chief said that large turnout of people in the elections to the Panchayat is an encouraging trend and asked people to elect honest and capable people so that problems of people are being addressed effectively and in order to strengthen basic institution, of democracy. He hinted that elections to the local bodies would also be held soon and asked party cadres to participate in large number to these elections and elect deserving, honest and dedicated candidates. The PCC chief exhorted the partymen to strengthen the Congress in order to strengthen democracy and delivering system and justice in the state, so that people’s aspirations are fulfilled. Prof Soz disclosed that the Pradesh Congress Committee would organize a function to pay homage to late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 20th death anniversary on May 21, 2011 at Jammu and member CWC, incharge J&K party affairs Mohan Parkash would be the chief guest of this function. Prominent among those who attended the meeting included senior vice presidents PCC Dharam Pal Sharma, Amrit Malhotra, Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma, vice presidents Hari Singh, Yash Pal Khajuria, Gurmukh Singh, general secretary Amolak Singh, ex-minister Mula Ram, MLA Indu Pawar, former MLA Shiv Dev Singh, Lal Mohammad Sabir, Shiv Kumar Sharma, Om Chopra, Prakash Sharma, Manmohan Singh, S S Shingari and others.
