| JSM calls for united agitation to secure Jammu justice | | | EARLY TIMES REPORT Jammu, May 17: Apprehending that the Government of India is expected to take certain steps to placate the separatists and the leaders of mainstream political parties especially National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Jammu State Morcha (JSM) on Tuesday called four united agitation to get “justice” for the people of Jammu region. The JSM members, in a meeting held under the chairmanship of its president Virender Gupta, said that if the leaders of all political parties fail to get united at this crucial juncture on some common agenda then they would be failing in their duty towards the people of Jammu province. They felt that this is the right time for launching a “massive agitation” to get justice as the final report of the Interlocutors is shortly going to be submitted. “It is expected that GoI may take certain steps to placate the Kashmiri separatists and the leaders of NC and PDP while ignoring the interests and the aspirations of the people of Jammu region,” they maintained. They also highlighted various issues pertaining to Jammu region and demanded an independent political and administrative structure to the people of Jammu region so that their alleged “exploitation at the hands of Kashmiri leaders” is minimized and the people of Jammu region get rid of “Kashmiri domination” for ever. They also demanded starting the functioning of Jammu Central University, bifurcation of civil secretariat, directorates and state corporations and establishing the bifurcated units in Jammu and Srinagar with each unit having a separate administrative staff including the head of the department/ secretary. “The provincial level posts including both Gazetted as well as non-Gazetted be filled by the persons belonging to the concerned province (Jammu or Kashmir), thus providing 100 % opportunities to the domiciles of that province,” they further demanded. Besides they also demanded special drive be made to recruit persons from Jammu province so that share of Jammu province in the State level services becomes at par with that of Kashmir, equal distribution of development funds between Jammu province and Kashmir province and removal of the stoppage put on the delimitation of state assembly constituencies and on the alteration of the assembly strength and enhancement in the representation of Jammu region at least keeping it at par with Kashmir province. Prominent among those who attended the meeting included H.B. Khajuria, Vishav Bandhu Gupta, Chandra Uday Sharma, Varinder Magotra, Surjeet Singh Jamwal, Dushyant, R.C. Gupta, Pushap Singh, Manav Gupta, Rajinder Gupta and Rattan Kapoor.
