| Highway robbers strike again; snatch Scorpio after assaulting driver | | |
JAMMU, May 17: Almost an year after highway robbers murdered a cab driver at Nagrota and fled in his vehicle, a similar incident took place at Chhani Himmat here in the wee hours of Tuesday morning
when three armed persons snatched a Scorpio jeep after assaulting and seriously wounding its driver.
While in the earlier case the cab was hired by three persons from Katra, in today's incident, the Scorpio was hired by three persons from outside TRC, Srinagar.
Police sources said when the Scorpio was on the bypass road at Channi early this morning, the threesome asked the driver to drop them. The moment he stopped, they started beating him and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, the sources added.
Sources said they snatched the vehicle from him and threw him out on the road. They then sped away, the sources added.The driver, whom sources identified as Zakir Hussain, son of Abbas
Ali, hails from Kargil. He was hospitalised.Though police had registered a case in this connection, they were yet to trace the vehicle and the accused.In the Nagrota case, all the accused were later apprehended from Punjab.
