Cop killed, civilian injured in Sopore | | | Early Times Report
SRINAGAR, May 17: close of the heels of attacking a former Minister’s residence in Bandipore and gunning down a Constable at Tujjar Sharief, suspected militants this evening fired upon a civilian who was preparing to contest election for a seat of Sarpanch at Wadora, in Sopore area.
Informed sources told Early Times that suspected militants fired upon at Mohammad Maqbool Bhat S/o Abdul Gaffar Bhat of Wadora Payeen at Wadora, on Sopore-Kupwara Road late this evening. Bhat, who sustained gunshot wounds, was evacuated and rushed to Sub District Hospital Sopore for medical treatment.
Earlier today suspected militants shot dead a police constable at Tujjar Sharief village in the same area of Sopore.
A police spokesman said Mohammad Shafi Dar (belt No.1761/S), son of Ghulam Mustafa of Ladishat, Sopore, who was posted in District Police Srinagar, was fired upon by militants from a close range, near main Chowk Tujjar-Sopore. He died on spot. Dar, a 2006 appointee, was presently posted in Srinagar. He is survived by old aged parents, two sisters and a younger brother.
Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone, S M Sahai, Deputy Inspector General of Police, North Kashmir Range, Munir Ahmad Khan, Superintendent of Police Sopore, Altaf Ahmad Khan, other Police and civil Officers participated in the funeral at Tujjar Sharief.
Late last night, suspected militants had fired several shots on the residential house of counter-insurgent-turned-politician and a former Minister of State of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s government, Usman Majeed, at Garoora in Bandipore area.
