Anti-encroachment drive conducted by JMC

JAMMU, May 18: Continuing the drive against encroachments, the Jammu Municipal Corporation conducted an anti-encroachment drive under the instructions of S.C. Sawhney, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation and demolished a shop at Plot No. 262-A, Gandhi Nagar owned by Anil Chouhan and also removed pavements extended by approximately 30 shopkeepers near Dudha Dhari Temple at Shastri Nagar, Jammu.
Further the Health Officer, JMC alongwith a team of Food Inspectors continued the drive against the menace of adulteration and inspected 180 Food establishments/Rehries and 45 defaulters were booked under PFA Act, 1954 and Municipal Corporation Act, 2000 respectively in the areas such as Gujjar Nagar, B.C. road, K.C. Chowk, Prem Nagar, Jewel, Talab tillo, Shastri Nagr, etc.
A compounding of Rs. 13,300/- (Rupees thirteen thousand and three hundred only) was realized from the delinquents on spot. About 80 kgs of sweets, cooked food, ice-cream not fit for human consumption and 20 kgs of cut fruits was destroyed on spot.
About 200 liters of Jaljeera prepared with un-permitted colour not fit for human consumption was also destroyed on spot.
About 10 kgs of polythene carry bags were also lifted from various food establishments. Besides this, two persons were also booked under Cigarette and Smoking Act and a fine of Rs. 100/- was also realized from them.
The drive will continue and all the food establishment owners and itinerary vendors selling milk/ cooked food /Ice-cream, khoya kulfi, ice candies, fruit juice, cut fruit and other food items are strictly warned to adhere to the standards as laid down in PFA Act, 1954 and also maintained hygienic conditions of their premises, their utensils and ensure supply of pure and fresh food stuffs to the general public failing which they will be sternly dealt under law.
Moreover, the shopkeepers are instructed to keep the garbage of their premises in dustbins and not to throw on the road/footpaths and throw the garbage at the nearby collection point/dustbin of Municipal Corporation otherwise action under rule shall be initiated against them.
