SRINAGAR, May 18: Senior IAS officer and Principal Secretary Agriculture Production Mohammad Iqbal Khanday's only son, 27-year-old Saajid Iqbal, died in a road accident when he was driving back to Srinagar from Anantnag at around 1.00 a.m last night. He was returning to home after attending a marriage ceremony in Anantnag.

SP Awantipore, Mohammad Irshad, told Early Times that Sajid's Alto JK02 A-8244 appeared to have swerved to extreme end of the motorway near Chhachhkoot village and crashed into a poplar tree, killing him on spot. DIG South Kadhmir Shafqat Watali, who is husband of Khanday's sister-in-law, was among the first who reached Pampore early this morning. Arrangements were immediately made to send a state helicopter to get Khanday from Chandigarh. He was reportedly in the Punjab capital to pursue a case CBI has chargesheeted against him in 2006.
Sources said that Sajid had lately joined an NGO after completing his degree in law in Pune and thereafter practicing for about two years in Jammu.
