J&K to raise wool, woolen design centre | | | Early Times Report SRINAGAR, May 19: Minister for Industries and Commerce S. S. Slathia inaugurated Rs. 10 crore integrated project for development of Wool and Woolen Design and Development Centre here today. The project has been sanctioned under Prime Minister’s Economic Package. Minister went round the different units and was briefed by the concerned workers about the production. He was told that necessary training has been imparted to the workers in producing the quality handloom and woolen fabrics. The project comprises phase I and II. First phase envisages yarn preparation waving product development, design development, training, testing and setting up a centre for wool development in the state. The second phase envisages wool grading raw wool processing wool spinning and fabric processing to upgrade this sector for overall development of woolen textile in the state. Slathia said that main aim of the project was to revive and upgrade woolen industry in the state to exploit the tremendous potential of indigenous wool and woolen products of the state. He said that with the establishment of this project, state’s economy will receive much needed fillip and added that handloom sector has vast employment scope. Managing Director J&K Handloom, Showkat Ahmad informed the Minister about the major achievements of the corporation and assured that quality woolen products will be produced and put on sale at its different showrooms. He said under the project different laboratories have been set up for quality control, which will help to produce the best quality woolen products.
