Interactive session on contemporary issues in higher education | | | Early Times report JAMMU, May 19: MIER College of Education organized an Interactive session on the theme “Contemporary issues in Higher Education” under its ongoing programme of inviting distinguished educationists. The resource person on this occasion was Prof. H.S. Soch, Former Vice Chancellor, Guru Nanak Dev University Amritsar. Chairman MIER Group of Institutions Dr. Arun K. Gupta welcomed the honoured guest and introduced him to the faculty member of the college. He highlighted achievements of Prof. Soch especially in the field of education and the role he is playing even now for promoting cause of quality education. He opined that the theme taken by Prof. Soch has been selected keeping in view the present scenario of educational system and the challenges that lie ahead. He stressed that education is now undoubtedly recognized as a major driving force for economic competitiveness in an increasingly knowledge driven global economy. It is imperative for various nations to raise the level of employment skills, to sustain globally competitive research base and to improve knowledge dissemination techniques in order to uplift the society. While interacting with faculty members Prof. Soch said that era of globalization has brought about changes at all levels of our Educational System. With the advent of private universities and foreign universities in the country the challenges for survival of colleges and universities have become manifold. Prof. Soch appreciated the involvement and level of awareness of the MIER faculty on the contemporary issues. Dr. Adit Gupta, Joint Director MIER proposed a formal vote of thanks at the end of the session.
