Muslim intellectuals campaign for return of KPs | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, May 19: Following victory of a lone Kashmiri Pandit woman Aasha Jee,in the recent Panchayat election in village Wuzzan in north Kashmir, leading Muslim intellectuals and academicians have urged majority community in the valley to "ignite a Kashmiri Muslim movement" for inviting their neighbours(Pandits) back to the valley . While on one hand, Muslim intellectuals and political activists within the valley have begun exploring possibility of attracting their Pandit neighbours back to Kashmir, various Pandit organisations are still skeptical about future of Pandits if they go back to Kashmir. Senior separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani had recently given a call to Pandits to return to the valley for living with their old neighbours. Even in the midst of this confusion and apprehensions Indian muslim scholars and bureaucrats, including Najeeb Jung, vice chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, have stated that a muslim movement for attracting Pandits back to the valley was possible if the "moment is grabbed by the valley’s leadership, with the support of central government. These Muslim scholars and political activists have suggested to secular Kashmiris "must establish direct contact by phone, e-mail and Facebook with their Pandit brothers and sisters." Seminars and conferences are arranged in Srinagar, Jammu, Delhi and other parts of the country where leaders from both the sides make a fresh beginning for reducing trust deficit.
